Photo Scanning

I had thousands of photos in a worn out cardboard boxes in my basement when I found Heritage Makers. Honestly I was so far behind in my digital pictures I couldn't even think about them. In a matter of months using Heritage Makers, I was making huge headway, telling the most important stories and ready to spend some time with those memories, people and stories in those boxes. I rented a high speed scanner and scanned thousands of my photos, my parents photos and my grandparents photos and started interviewing people. I know there are many people like me, busy and completely overwhelmed who needed what I have and although I've been a consultant for 2 years helping others tell their story I can now scan for clients too. I just invested in a High-quality High-speed scanner, so you can get ahead too.

SCANNING PROVIDES:
* Photo safety from fire, water and aging
* An easy way to share your photos with all of your family
* A way to get your photos onto the computer ready for project

A sample of the included retouching:

Scanning makes it possible to put all your printed pictures onto the computer so you can build beautiful projects and share with your family for years to come with out having to hassle with scanning it yourself.

With traditional flatbed scanning, you could spend as many as 6 hours to scan 100 photos. The same amount of pictures can be scanned with HM in only 20 minutes! That’s a huge time difference. The more you scan, the more time you save. In fact, if you scanned 1,000 pictures, you would save more than 62 hours! Save time and money, since I offer one of the lowest prices in the industry.

How would you describe yourself?

I'm a fun, happy, growing, learning, short, family-loving lady who likes to make a difference.

How long have you been involved in your business?
2 years

Why did you choose your particular business?
I have 3 great and busy kids, they were growing much faster then I could scrapbook them and I realized what an expensive hobby it was. I looked for months for a faster, funner, less expensive option, It took me months until I was introduced. It was love at first website.

What keeps you motivated?
Everything! When something goes right its so encouraging, When things aren't going right, I want to prove that I can do better!

Tell us a little about your family.
I have an amazing husband and 3 kids, 6 and younger. They are my everything!

How do you prioritize family and your business?
Family is first, we share goals together and help each other reach our goals

Where do you see yourself in 5yrs?
Growing and learning. Stronger in our family and in my business knowing I've blessed thousands of other families grow too!

Biggest life lesson learned?
Everyone is unsure of something. Be loving, understanding and sensitive to everyone, it may be a really hard day for them

Biggest lesson you’ve learned in business?
Imagine your successes and be willing to work for them, In the end its all about how many people you've served.

What is your secret to success?
When you begin to feel stretched too thin, spend some time on yourself. Recharge your batteries and smile, that is your first job before you talk to any one else.

All Entrepreneurs encounter bad days. How do you handle yours?
I have positive people who support me who I can talk too, watch inspiring stories on youtube, read a "you can do it" type of book, or get on www.SharingHeritage.com and make something!

What was your sweetest success story?
When one of my 82 year old clients called me to tell me her life story (we had worked on together) had arrived in the mail, She expressed what it meant to her and to her family, her husband said "That is a true Heirloom."

Share your favorite quote or inspirational thought:
I live for those who love me
For Those that know me true
For Heaven that smiles above me
And awaits my spirit too

For the cause that needs assistance
For the wrong that needs resistance
For the future in the distance
And the GOOD that I can do

Heritage Makers: My story

I'm passionate about Heritage Makers and storybooking, but WHY? I thought I'd share my background, some incite to where I was in life when I found this, I mean when Heritage Makers found me...

Part 1: History

Growing up, my mom participated in a few great direct selling companies. I always admired her for being social, goal oriented, motivated and inspirational. She made good money, went on company trips, yet she was home everyday when I got home from school.

When I was in the 5th grade and the other kids did oral presentations on becoming an astronaut or fire fighter, I brought in an apple peeler-corer-slicer and did a Pampered Chef party. Out of high school, I signed up for 2 or 3 networking companies because I believed in them, and that I could do anything. But I was not passionate about vitamins, etc. I turned my entrepreneurial efforts to my husbands business and spent more time making memories with my family.

I took up scrapbooking, as my collection of photos grew much faster then our family did. I was upset that I didn’t have enough wall space to show them off and my photo boxes (large Rubbermaid bins) became full. Then the fateful day came. My oldest child reached up over the edge of the table and touched one of my expensive scrapbooking papers. I packed them in a box, and pulled them out occasionally to work on a page here and there; spending so much time and space packing them back up at the end of every session.

“There has to be another way!” I thought. Rushing to Amazon.com I checked the prices for Adobe Photoshop Elements… It was a tough blow to calculate the cost of “going digital.” Software, external herd drive, art collections, maybe even a new printer! Forget it.

Months passed, I didn’t imagine digital any more, and I wasn’t inspired to pull out the scrapping stuff anymore.

Part 2 Meeting Julie

I met Julie McLaws at a family reunion, we were kindred spirits and I talked her into coming to visit the next weekend. She asked me about my scrapbooks and I was thrilled to pull them out of the basement to show them off. As we flipped through the pages she said, “You don’t write the stories on your pages.”
“No, I don’t like my handwriting.”
“I understand, but writing the stories is so important.”
“I know…”
“Can I show you something on the computer?”
“Sure!”

It was less then a week until I was doing this as a business, I want to make sure everyone has heard of Heritage Makers, because it changed my life. (Thank you Julie, With all of my heart!)

Part 3: Why am I still a Heritage Maker?

I have done books for each of my children, my husband, my parents and my grandparent’s life story. I thoroughly enjoy the creative outlet and the emphasis on family I’m encouraging in my children. As a consultant I get to take a few more steps into strengthening homes and families by inspiring, motivating, and instructing others as they gather pictures and collect stories. I help others create priceless heirlooms. Just think of the value of these book when I am gone to those who love me.

There are so many levels on which I’m being rewarded for doing this (not any any particular order):
• Personal Growth
• Time out of the house with great ladies
• Free projects and premier
• Money
• Turning my Children’s hearts to their “fathers”
• Learning and training
• Creative design time for just me
• The Heirloom books
• Freedom
• System to organize my pictures and stories
• So much more!

Photography tips from the Heritage Makers team

People Make the Picture
from Chris Lee, Heritage Makers CEO
Whenever I take a photo of a great landscape, a beach, a mountain, a red-rock arch, a spring meadow of flowers, an autumn tree-lined street, or any famous landmark, I remind myself that most of those images are already available somewhere in a postcard or online. But what I won’t be able to do is re-create the moment I was there, and the memories of the people who were there with me. So I always remind myself that “people make the picture.”

Even if you’re visiting a landmark by yourself, use the self-timer and race out into the frame. You’ll be happier in ten years when you look back at that image and remember what you looked like when you were there. Seeing that smile on your face will bring back your memories much more than seeing yet another empty photo of the Eiffel Tower.

Using Your Digital Camera

from Don Lenhof, Director of Marketing
Photographers should know how to make simple adjustments on their digital camera (learn from your camera’s manual), such as:
• How to change the film speed to shoot better pictures under lower light.
• How to shoot with “aperture priority” so that their moving images won’t be so blurred.
• How to use the “picture mode settings” to get better results, i.e. “landscape,” “nighttime,” etc.
• How to set the camera for “no flash” if they want to get shots in museums or other places flash photography is not allowed.

Take Three Instead of One

from Stephen Felt, Senior Developer
• Every time you pull out your camera for a shot, take three pictures instead of one. This way you’re increasing your chances that one of the photos will turn out just the way you want.
• Try one without the flash. Photographs taken without flash usually feel more authentic. It’s free with digital, so go ahead! Shoot!

Type of Shots
from Ryan Harper, Web Developer
• Move things away from the middle of the frame; use the rule of thirds (check out http://digital-photography-school.com/rule-of-thirds).
• Use flash while you’re outside in the middle of the day.
• Get down on eye level with your subject. Too many kid photos are looking down.
• Get in close.
• Watch your lighting; keep faces out of shadow.

Adult Literacy week 2010

I just found out that its Adult Literacy week this week. I hope that with libraries and the internet, and all of the thousands of resources we have today that we don't leave others behind. If you know someone who struggles with reading, think about writing a book all about them and how wonderful you think they are. That would be a book that they would pick up over and over. Sharing my love with your family this Valentines season!

Monday, February 8, 2010

I'm having a Scanning Party! I've reserved a high speed scanner for 2 weeks in February and I want to help you get your pictures scanned too! So what we are going to do is let you bring 25 pictures and $5 and we will get those pictures digital! (Please bring a flash drive or $1 for a CD) I'll supply the snacks! RSVP and Directions at Shari @ sharingheritage. com

Why Scan? Are your photos secure? Easily accessible? Can you share all of your photos and memories with your family? Or are your photos “stored” in an old shoe box in the back of the closet?

My scanning service makes it possible to put all your printed pictures onto the computer and straight into Studio so you can build beautiful projects you can share with your family for years to come with out having to hassle with scanning it yourself.

SCANNING PROVIDES:
* Peace of mind knowing your photos are safe from fire and water.
* An easy way to share your photos with all of your family.
* A way to get your photos onto the computer ready for projects.

So come! Let me show you haw easy this can be If you want to do more we'll pick a date to get them all done! See you there!

NPC Classes

I've had some concerns from people who want to start preserving their stories and pictures, but they were worried about:
* Not having access to high speed internet
* Remembering to work on the project regularly
* Needing extra help as thy get started
* Needing help all the time because they are unfamiliar with a computer

I wanted to help with each of those in a fun group environment and so I decieded that I would teach "Digital Scrapbooking" and "Storybook your Heritage" at the local Community College, NPC. I have been teaching these classes at NPC for a year now and have enjoyed seeing each persons projects and all of their consistent progress. I am so excited this year as most of my classes will have 6 or more students. We meet in a computer lab once a month in the evenings. Since there are many little towns in the area, I've decided to teach at several campuses as a convenience to my students. The Spring 2010 semester start for me this week with Show Low and Holbrook with Winslow and Snowflake in the next 2 weeks. To sign up for the $20 non-credit class please call NPC. If you have any questions please contact me at
shari@ sharingheritage.com

Happy February 2010!

It's February! And we have 3 new products I am so excited about: First, we have 2 new sizes of gallery-wrapped canvas 20x8 and 8x8 These are perfect for groupings, and we have a great introductory price for them for the month of February. Second, the "oh so popular" swatch book has a cousin, the square swatch book! The very best part? You can earn either swatch book FREE for hosing a workshop for me AND your friends who attend will get a FREE 12x12 scrapbook page credit just for attending! Remember February ONLY, I only have a few more open dates left! (If we don't live close, think Virtual Workshop, and share Heritage Makers with family and friends all over the US and Canada)

New Design

Do you like the new design? I didn't realize how much a little dressing up could do!

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Hi!

I know it's been a while since you've heard from me, that's because we've had a fun and busy Christmas season! We had a scare in December that put all 5 of us in the hospital due to Carbon Monoxide poisoning. But all of us recovered fully and quickly thanks to great doctors and God's blessings. We got to travel to see family and celebrate Christmas and New Years! The picture on the right is my parents, siblings and our families last month and below is my 1 year old Jimmy opening his board book Christmas morning. I hope you are feeling as blessed as I do right now!

Since its been so long since some of us have been able to connect I wanted to let you know some of the things that I am up to to stay in touch and help you work on your projects this year. I have created a Facebook page, this business blog, and a twitter account to keep you posted on new sales, project ideas and events. Please join me! Don't forget that you can always contact me at shari@sharingheritage.com or 928-587-0282.

One of those events are the "Digital Scrapbooking" and "Storybook your Heritage" classes I am teaching at four NPC college campuses Spring semester in North Eastern Arizona. The classes are once a month from 6-10pm in Show Low (1st Wednesday), Holbrook (1st Thursday), Winslow (2nd Wednesday) and Taylor (3rd Wednesday). If you would like to enroll in one of those classes please contact NPC Registration at 1-800-266-7845. The cost is $20, please enroll before February so you do not miss any classes.

I wouldn't be a good consultant if I didn't share our biggest bargain of the year for January, our special the pick of the month is Club Premier. Premier is one of the most amazing things about Heritage Makers. If you want to save time seriously, get premier for the time saving pre-designed templates. If you want to design seriously, get premier for over 45,000 pieces of amazing professional digital art. If you want to organize your photos seriously, get premier for unlimited photo storage. Or just get premier so, like me you can do it all! Premier can be hard to explain if you do get to see the art so click here and watch an amazing video explaining more about Premier. I KNOW you'll love what's in there! Only in January you can get 12 months of Premier for $99.95!

I realize this has been a long post, but I want you to know I'm here and available to help you as you're writing and organizing. I loved meeting and getting to know you as I've worked with this company. I've been busy, very busy as I've done workshops all over Arizona, and I'm looking for people who are self starters and want to work from home, be their own boss and pick their schedule who can help me in building this company. If you or someone you know would like more information on joining my winning team, please contact me, I have some great things to share! In fact, if you get 4 people to follow this blog who may want to get started in Heritage Makers making their own project or sharing this amazing system with others, let me know and I'll give you 3 FREE greeting card credits as a thank you!
